Brush

Unlike some other comparisons we’ve done, like with Shark VacMop, both vacuums here include a brush. This gives you extra cleaning and scrubbing power, which is great for both vacuuming and mopping.

However, the brushes are very different and serve somewhat different purposes.

Bissell Crosswave brush is the versatile Dual-action Multi-Surface brush. This looks like a regular vacuum brushroll, but it’s a little thicker and great for mopping. Not only that, but it’s able to dig into carpet and rug fibers to remove particles. This allows Bissell to clean both rugs and hard floors.

Hoover Floormate has SpinScrub Brushes. The row of four spinning brushes are great for mopping very difficult stains and messes. It works on them until your floor is completely clean. While these brushes aren’t meant for rugs and carpets, this does a fantastic job with hard floors.

Which one is better? That’s hard to say.

If you want versatility, then Bissell is better since it can be used on hard floors and rugs. If you want superior scrubbing, then Hoover is better.

Bissell Crosswave vs Hoover Floormate: Suction

Both of these are wet dry vacuums, so you might be wondering how their suction is. That’s a great question because they need to suck on dry debris while also removing water and cleaner from the floor.

We would call Bissell Crosswave a true vacuum and mop combo as it effectively does both. The motor runs at an impressive 3000 RPM, ensuring fast brush rotation so that it picks up debris and busts through stains.

Floormate Hoover is really more of a floor cleaner with some suction. This is better at the scrubbing and mopping side of the spectrum. That’s perfectly fine and it’s great at what it does, but it’s not a strong vacuum. It can pick up loose debris easily enough, but more difficult particles might escape the suction.

We give the win to Bissell here. It’s a great mix between mop and vacuum, ensuring you can clean your whole home with ease.

Hoover Floormate vs Bissell Crosswave: Water Tank

Both of these include sizable water tanks for mopping, and they even both use dual tank technology. This means that one tank is for clean water (feel free to add cleaner here for extra power), while the other is for dirty water. This ensures that dirty water doesn’t come in contact with your floors.

While both units use the same dual tank technology and can mop with nearly equal efficiency (Hoover is somewhat better due to the scrubbing brushes), there is a difference in the water tank size.

Crosswave’s water tank is 28oz, which is quite good. You should have no problem cleaning several rooms with this.

But if you have a very large space, then Floormate’s 48oz water tank might be better. It’s nearly double the size and you can clean many rooms without having to refill.

In reality, both are good and you should be fine with either. Hoover wins this round, but Bissell’s tank is large enough that it should suit most people.

Weight and Cord Length

Both of these are fairly lightweight and have good cord lengths, but one is better than the other in both respects. You always want to make sure that your vacuum mop isn’t too heavy or has a short cord as that is inconvenient.

Bissell weighs just 11.5lbs and comes with a 25ft cord, which is very good. Hoover is good, but it’s heavier at 13.8lbs and has a shorter 20ft cord.

As we said, both are good, but Bissell has extra reach and is easier to push around, climb up and down stairs, and is overall better here. Hoover is good though, so we can’t say too much bad about it here.
